    Default Constipation on NS

I can only attribute it to the meal plan but the last several days I have had problems with constipation. I am eating all my servings of vegetables including raw vegies and salads at least once a day. I am also drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Sometimes that happens when you start out on a diet like this. The body takes awhile to get used to all the fiber and the changes you're making to the way you're eating. Try to get in more exercise, even if it's walking more and keep drinking that water. If it's really bad, I'm sure as an RN that you know about the different over the counter products you can take such as Miralax (which has worked for me before), stool softeners, etc.

My old standby is Milk of Magnesia (or, MOM, as my kids call it). I take it night before bed and first thing the next morning it's working with no cramps, etc.

    Hi nursenicolelee,
The Nutrisystem plan is high in fiber, and it is not unusual for members to experience in change in bowel habits when starting the plan. You should adjust in a few more days. You can try increasing your fluid intake and activity. You may want to consider OTC products and/or a discussion with your physician.

I take magnesium oxide tablets with water - the tablets are easy to carry along.

I am prone to constipation and in my case I was told that it's because of adhesion from a prior abdominal surgery. The colonoscopy doctor said he had to work at getting the scope through.

I use an old fashioned remedy. I eat a few dried apricots or some walnuts whenever constipation hits. A couple of days of this and things get back to normal.

My doctor also told me to eat fruits or drink their equivalent juices that start with the letter P - plums, prunes, peaches, pears, etc.

I too had this issue - now I eat one prune a day & have had no issues since.

And..they actually taste good, I had no idea.

I've had great results with the inclusion of Probiotic Pearls into my daily routine. I take one each night before bed

One prune does it for you? You're lucky. I can eat the 60 calorie packs of prunes that have 3 of them in it and they won't do anything for me. LOL. Maybe I've eaten so many of them that my body is used to them.
