Question Is it safe to eat tuna everyday?

My favorite lunch is the tuna salad. I could eat it everyday. My mom brought up concern about mercury levels the other day, and that thought never occurred to me. How many times a week is it safe to eat tuna salad? I'm also trying to conceive right now.

    Thanks!

Canned white albacore tuna typically has higher levels of mercury than chunk light tuna. A couple of years ago, the Natural Resources Defense Council said that adults can eat canned tuna about twice a week.

The FDA says an adult who weighs at least 150 lbs. can eat a 6 oz. serving of white albacore every nine days and chunk light every three days without exceeding recommended mercury consumption levels.

Lost 45 pounds and maintaining since 4/2/09

Any advice or information I provide either on discussion boards, inbox messages, PMs, or e-mail is based on my personal knowledge, experience and observations. I don't work for Nutrisystem. I'm a member just like you. Only NS employees can make official NS statements.

Thank you all! I was about to add all tuna salad for lunch in my next order. I'll limit it to once or twice a week.

    Hi Chi-gal,

Nutrisystem uses light tuna in its tuna salad. Please be aware that you will need to stop the program once you conceive.

Does NS say that it is safe to eat their tuna salad everyday?

The NRDC and the FDA aren't solid enough sources?

Eeeek! I had no idea about this. I eat tuna almost every day on my salads. Bummer.

NS would not sell a product that could not be eaten on a daily basis.

I would expect NS to put that kind of warning info. on the label, the same with the sugar alcohol warnings, to avoid their customers from getting sick from these products.
